Matching Your Shoes with Your Outfit

I consider myself to be a fashionista. I try to stay caught up with the latest trends and styles in the fashion community. This is not easy because, as we all know, the styles are constantly changing. One day short skirts are in, the next day the longer the better. One day it is ok to wear your shirt tucked in and the next day you need to let it hang out. Shoe styles and trends seem to change just the same if not more than the rest of the fashion world. For this reason, matching your shoes with your outfit can be tricky because you never know what rule to follow.

The first thing you need to realize is that many times choosing shoes is a personal choice. In other words, there are times when there are no rules at all. However, there are some general rules of thumb to help keep you from creating a shoe fashion faux pas.

You first need to start by thinking about what type of person you are. Matching your shoes with your outfit is as much about style as it is about personality. What I mean by this is, if you are a more conservative person, your shoe style and shoe matching should be more conservative. You might tend to match or color coordinate more than others. If this is the case, start by searching for the color that appears the most in your outfit and go for a shoe that coordinates or matches that color. If your purse is black, wear black shoe. Consider silver shoes and a silver purse to dress up an outfit, but still maintain that safe consistency that you love.

Now, on the other hand, if you are free spirited and daring, then your shoe choices would be different when completing your outfit. You might want to consider tall boots with a short skirt or tall boots over your jeans for a more casual look. Whereas some people don't think that flip flops belong in the work place, the free spirited can make dressy flip flops work with their dressier clothes.

When I am giving clothing advice to my friends and family, which I often do, I always start by thinking about their personality. Because I feel that there is freedom of choice when matching your shoes with your outfit, I feel that the best choice is one that matches your personal style and personality. This leaves others thinking "wow, that outfit is so her" versus "wow, what on earth was she thinking?"
