Comfortable Women's Shoes

I was not blessed with the best feet in the world. By the age of 30, I had already had bunion surgery and a few years later I am on my way to a second surgery, this time for my other foot. Part of the problem for me I believe was hereditary while the other part was due to poor shoe choices from the time I was a teenager. As I entered into the phase of my first surgery, I began to search reluctantly search for comfortable women's shoes.

Let me explain my reluctance. The shoes I was used to wearing had heals. Not your run of the mill 2" wedge, I'm talking 4"-5" of pure pump power going on. It all started in high school when I got it in to my head that you may have to sacrifice comfort for good looking shoes. This translated into buying shoes sometimes too small in order to buy the shoes that I HAD to have. I carried this idea with me into my adult years and continued to buy shoes for the sake of their looks. I was convinced that comfortable women's shoes equaled the orthopedic shoes that my grandmother wore. (No offense to Grammy).

I began searching comfortable women's shoes on the internet. My podiatrist recommended a few shoes like Clarks and Naturalizer, so I began with them. I had these preconceived notions about what my search would find. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of shoes that I found. These were not shoes for someone my grandmother's age, these were shoes made for me! There were literally thousands of shoes to choose from on the internet in every shape, style and color you can imagine.

What I discovered that the comfort of a shoe doesn't necessarily have to do with its shape. In other words, in my case, heels do not necessarily equal poor shoes for my feet. Comfort has more to do with things like support, cushion and the material of the shoe. I could actually purchase shoes with heels that would not be harmful to my feet and would not leave my feet crying at the end of the day. In addition, I found more casual, comfortable shoes for days that I am not dressing up. Sandals, athletic shoes, flats were all available and were made for the sole purpose of giving your shoe the support and comfort it needs. I was able to be out with the old and in with the new shoes without feeling like I had to compromise style in any way.
